Tasting Terroir: Moving Beyond the Grape
As one of the founders in the Oregon wine industry, we know that wine has greatly evolved in the Willamette valley during the past forty years. Knowledge of varietals, soil type, and terroir are only a few of the aspects that make for a well rounded wine, as well as a wine connoisseur.
We are pleased to offer a 3-part series of classes this winter lead by The Wine & Spirits Archive that will help demystify the wine tasting experience and give attendees a more in-depth look at wine from grape to table. These fun and educational classes will be held in the Durant Vineyards Tasting Room, limited to 20 attendees per class, and will include a collection of current releases along with select library wines.
A wine's personality is determined in part by the grape variety used, but that's only part of the story. This session will build on the tasting skills and explore how climate, weather, soil, site and winemaking practices also influence what's in the bottle. The factors that contribute to quality and how to distinguish a high-quality wine from a basic-quality wine will also be discussed.
