Red, White and Greens

Once again, the second annual Best of Oregon Food & Wine Festival, set for Aug. 14, promises top-notch nosh and world-class wines. But this year, you can take your reds and whites to the greens, thanks to the event’s new location: The Reserve Vineyards & Golf Club in Aloha.  

“[The Reserve Vineyards & Golf Club] is a great venue with access outdoors to stunning vistas, as well as within the elegant clubhouse,” said Claudia Bowers, event founder and owner of Pravia Wines & Events.

With buzzards, birdies and eagles soaring about, local culinary talent — 30 wineries and 20 food artisans — will offer their best creations to guests. Prior to the main culinary event, a limited number of attendees can participate in a golf tournament — the golfer who lands a hole-in-one will drive home a brand-new Kuni BMW.

For Bowers, it’s more than just a chance to taste the best the state has to offer and dust off the old clubs; it’s about giving the local economy a little boost.

“Best of Oregon is an event founded by locals with the mission to revitalize and promote our local economy.” Bowers explained, “Together we can try to do our part to address the high unemployment rate in Oregon simply by supporting our local growers and the food and wine industry. We want to encourage Oregonians to think and buy local; we want to encourage Oregonians to keep our money in Oregon. It’s the sustainable thing to do.”

A portion of the proceeds from the golf tournament, sponsorships and festival fees, along with 100 percent of door prize ticket sales, will benefit Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Tickets for both event and golf tourney are limited this year.
