Mediterranean Varietal Tasting
Drawing inspiration from last year's Italy in the Valley event, Cana's Feast introduces a Mediterranean-inspired tasting that is sure to draw, once again, many spirited wine lovers to their Carlton tasting room, June 27.
From 1 to 5 p.m., guests can sample nearly 30 different Southern Rhone and Spanish varietal wines accompanied by light Mediterranean fare - created by winery chef Lisa Lanxon - while enjoying classical Spanish guitar by Rio Con Brio. With a charming backdrop of the coastal foothills, the bocce courts will be open for friendly competition.
"This event is meant to provide people with an opportunity to learn more about Southern Rhone and Spanish varietal wines and to highlight the producers who are making these wines right here in Oregon," said Cana's Feast winemaker Patrick Taylor. "While I have planned for our winery to host this function, it is to be presented as a southern Mediterranean-styled affair where all participants are featured equally."
The list of wineries participating in the event include: Abacela, Andrew Rich, Bryn Mawhr, Cana's Feast, Carlo & Julian, Cliff Creek, Cowhorn, Dominio IV, Folin Cellars, GC Cellars, Holloran Vineyard, J. Daan Wine Cellars, Remy Wines and Seven of Hearts. Oregon Olive Mill at Red Ridge Farms will be presenting their locally produced olive oils.
"In the interest of having a more intimate feel and presenting our guests with the broadest range of these varietals, we have limited the field to the dozen or so local producers of Spanish and Southern Rhone varietals," Taylor said. "As such, we have excluded Syrah as a varietal wine unless it is part of a blend. Most wine consumers can readily identify Syrah as a varietal, making it less appropriate for this particular event."
