Formaglini Vineyards releases Oregon Estate Wines in honor of Italian heritage
SANTA ANA, CA – Influenced by the simplicity and elegance of his Italian heritage, David de Lancellotti, recently released his artisan, biodynamic 2012 estate grown Pinot Noir, the first for his Formaglini Vineyards of Willamette Valley, Oregon. Planted in 2007, Formaglini Vineyards sits atop Calkins Lane in the famed Chehalem Mountains AVA. The 2012 was a phenomenal year for Oregon Pinot Noir, boosting the interest in this inaugural Formaglini Vineyard release.
In the sense of heritage, the Formaglini name is de Lancellotti’s paternal grandmother’s maiden name of La Quercia, Italy, which is a small village just south of Bologna. The Formaglini logo contains a leaf from an Oak tree. These are not only native to the area, but La Quercia translates to Oak in Italian. “My love of tradition and my Italian roots is the true soul behind our Formaglini wine experience,” explained de Lancellotti.
Italian wine writer and master sommelier, Cinzia Bonfa, recently bestowed these accolades on the 2012 Formaglini Pinot Noir, “The taste is round, fresh and graceful with dowry, barely perceptible tannins and a haunting echo of bramble fruits. A wine of great elegance to the heart, a drink of great charm.”
Following the excited interest of buyers for the 100-case 2012 Pinot Noir, Winegrower David de Lancellotti, will increase his 2013 case count, which is currently in barrel. However, De Lancellotti will stay with smaller productions in order to uphold the quality of his small, hand-worked vineyard. “My goal is to honor and extoll the terra of Oregon by growing beautiful wines to be enjoyed by friends and family. We want Formaglini Vineyards wines to become a tradition and sought after experience,” shared de Lancellotti.
