A group of 50 active Twitter users gathered at Del Rio Vineyards in Gold Hill on July 16 to respond to tweeted trivia questions, win prizes and let their followers share the fun. Del Rio gave the adults six free tasting cards and Fresco Mobile Kitchen whipped up dishes made with estate wine.

Southern Oregon Tweetup volunteer organizer Jerilyn Hassell Pool liked the free recipe cards and believes the #sotwup (hashtag) series of on-the-spot 140-character-long messages were seen by thousands of people. Says Del Rio’s Lindsey Fauble Zagar: “Each tweet helps share your story and provides another connection to current and potential customers.”

Pool, a graphic artist who is “really passionate about promoting local businesses,” is open to gathering Twitter users at other venues. In August, the group flocked to the Craterian Theater in Medford to watch the feel-good wine competition movie “Bottle Shock.” The event was an unauthorized fringe bonus to the World of Wine Festival.
