Co-op Uncorks Club

The venerable Ashland Food Co-op, 237 N. First St., has launched an events-driven wine club headed by respected wine “edutainer” Beverly McKenzie.

The annual club fee is $35 to $50, and there is no commitment to buy wine. Membership includes McKenzie’s services as a personal shopper, case discounts, invitations to quarterly classes and eno trips, a monthly newsletter and entry to the First Friday Tasting, which coincides with the Ashland First Friday Art Walk.

At the monthly tasting on Aug. 5 in the Co-op’s new Community Classroom, club members sampled 10 wines from Southern Oregon, the Willamette Valley and the world, including a Champagne and value sparkler. Cowhorn Vineyard’s Bill and Barbara Steele poured their Biodynamic 2007 Syrah and organic 2010 Sullivan Steele Sauvignon Blanc.

Free wine tastings will continue to be offered every Friday, 4 to 6 p.m., in the store. Find more information at www.ashlandfood.coop or call 541-482–2237.
