Best of Oregon Wine Awards

Best of Oregon Food & Wine Festival is pleased to announce the results of its first Best of Oregon Wine Awards competition, held July 11 at Portland’s El Gaucho Restaurant.

Wineries participating in the festival, which took place Aug. 6, were invited to submit wine to the competition. A panel of experienced Oregon wine judges conducted a blind tasting in which they evaluated more than 90 submissions.

The following wineries were awarded in the given categories:

Best Value Pinot Noir (under $30): Stoller Vineyards 2008 Pinot Noir, JV Estate, Dundee Hills

Premium Pinot Noir ($30 and over): Ebony Wines 2009 Pinot Noir, The Quarry, Willamette Valley

Red Blends: Folin Cellars 2008 “Passive Aggressive” Red Wine, Rogue Valley

Zinfandel: Angel Vine 2009 Zinfandel, Stonetree Vineyard, Columbia Valley

Chardonnay (tie): Stoller Vineyards 2010 Chardonnay, JV Estate, Dundee Hills; Mythology 2009 Chardonnay, Eola-Amity Hills

Other Whites: Dobbes Family Estate 2010 Grenache Blanc, Crater View Vineyard, Rogue Valley

Other Reds: Cana’s Feast 2007 “Grosso” Sangiovese, Ciel Du Cheval Vineyard, Columbia Valley

Syrah: Barking Frog 2008 Reserve Syrah

Rosé: Stoller Vineyards 2010 Pinot Noir Rosé, Dundee Hills

White Blends: Ardiri 2010 “Chehalem Gold” White Wine, Willamette Valley

Pinot Gris: Van Duzer 2010 Estate Pinot Gris, Willamette Valley

Dessert: Barking Frog 2008 “Dulcis” Syrah.

Other awards and recognitions:

Judges Choice: Cana’s Feast NV Vino Digestivo, Chinato d’Erbetti

Best of Show: Stoller Vineyards (placed in three categories)

Special Recognition: Marcus Goodfellow of Matello Wine (this producer consistently scored in the top two of each of the four categories in which he submitted).
