Ancient Anew Again

Ancient Cellars … sounds old, doesn’t it? Well, it’s not; it’s actually fairly new. Indianapolis transplants Chris and Craig Baker started the Dundee-based winery in 2007 at the 12th & Maple custom crush facility.

Fast-forward to 2012, and the young duo makes Ancient new once again with the opening of a tasting room in neighboring Newberg.

The winery’s retail space opened on Jan. 20 above Subterra Restaurant. The quaint atmosphere features a unique bar and five wines to sample, including Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Rosé of Cab Franc and Pinot Gris. In the near future, the Bakers will be releasing a Zinfandel and a Marionberry Port.

The tasting room is located at 1505 Portland Road (Highway 99W), Suite 205. Current off-season hours are Friday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and by appointment during the week.
