Firehouse Refurb

Floor plans for De Ponte’s second tasting room in Cartlon reveal several proposed features, including café-style seating in the front and a patio in the back.

This summer, De Ponte Cellars plans to open a second tasting in the “Great Little Town” of Carlton inside the historic fire station building.

Owners Scott and Rae Baldwin have started renovating the entire property, leaving the “bones and personality” of the building. It will have a commercial kitchen, as well as an outdoor patio and café seating. The tasting room will focus on special events — rehearsal dinners, wine dinners, corporate gatherings, “pop-up” dinners with guest cAhefs, etc. — for De Ponte and other small wineries that don’t have access to such a space.

In addition to wine, the tasting room will be selling the Baldwins’ grass-fed beef sourced from the couple’s free-range cattle ranch, Lonesome Rock Cattle Company. Located on the same property are a few acres dedicated to a CSA joint venture with Vibrant Valley Farm. The new tasting room also will be a drop-off point for the Community Supported Agriculture program.

Check the winery’s website, www.depontecellars.com, for progress and grand opening dates.
