Celebrate Oregon Wine Month with Vincent Wine Company
Vincent Fritzsche founded Vincent Wine Company in 2009. He worked harvests at Evesham Wood, Belle Pente and Grochau Cellars while holding down a day job, first as a book editor and then creating and managing continuing education programs.
Vincent Wine Company is named for many things. It is Vincent’s name, of course. It was also the name of his uncle and maternal grandfather. But, really, the name pays homage to the 4th century Saint Vincent of Saragossa, Spain, the patron saint of vintners. He was adopted centuries ago by the Burgundians, makers of the Pinot noir and Chardonnay, our grapes. Each year on or around January 22, they celebrate his feast day with the legendary Fête de la Saint Vincent. For all these reasons, it seems fitting for our wine to carry the name Vincent.
Vincent sources his fruit from several growers, who at a minimum, meet the Oregon LIVE certification of sustainability that sets limits and guidelines for qualification. Unlike many others who are seeking to make fruit forward Pinot Noir, Vincent wants his grapes to achieve phenolic ripeness, and showcase, not mask, their terroir. To this effect, he asks his growers to minimize leaf pulling and crop thinning on his parcels saying, “My vineyard practices seek to find ripeness at lower sugars and lower pH, with wines that are more transparent to their sites.”
We’re all about low-input wine making, working with several sustainably-farmed vineyards around the Willamette Valley to produce small amounts of handmade wine without a lot of fuss.
