Scott Paul PDX

Scott Wright pours for guests at Scott Paul PDX.

With celebratory Champagne, Scott Paul Wines uncorked Scott Paul PDX, its new Northwest Portland event space on Dec. 4.

While owners Scott and Martha Wright make their wine in Carlton — as well as host a tasting room — they call Portland home. Ten years ago, the couple bought a three-story living/work townhouse in the city’s Northwest district, dreaming of one day utilizing the ground floor for winery events.

“We were inspired by our visits to Burgundy, where producers often greet us and offer tastings in the space adjacent to their homes or even in their homes,” Martha said.

The open 2,000-square-foot space, featuring an artist-commissioned bar made of wine boxes from the couple’s import business and personal cellar with a PaperStone countertop, blends industrial and Old World.

Scott will lead wine seminars at the new space, including: Burgundy 101, Jan. 20, 7 to 9 p.m. ($50); Champagne, Feb. 17, 7 to 9 p.m. ($69); and Oregon-Burgundy comparison, March 16, 7 to 9 p.m. ($50). Seating is limited and reservations required (kellykarr@scottpaul.com or 503-319-5827).
