The restaurant has good ambience, we were seated promptly, the wait staff were friendly and attentive at this point.
I ordered a bottle of pinot noir after discussion with the server... read more a few minutes later the owner came over to our table in a bit of a rush. She said based on our discussion with our server she recommended a different bottle I accepted her advice. On first taste and smell seemed OK. With the second pour probably after breathing, it had a musty woody odor, drinkable but not great on reflection she was probably pushing that particular wine to get rid of it.
For an appetizer we ordered their ROMAGE ET CHARCUTERIE. Which was OK. I ordered CONFIT DE CANARD with Orange Cognac Reduction. It had a breast portion and a leg portion unusual to see a confit Duck breast because it has no fat in it and goes dry during the confit process. The breast was dry and inedible the leg portion was a little dry but ok. The sauce reduction was nothing more than an overly sweet syrup lacking flavor which ruined the dish.
I write this review because of the dish my wife chose, “Hanger Steak, shallot pinot noir reduction”. It was served in a pasta type dish full to the inner rim with a brown gravy no sign of any hanger steak, which is typically sautéed and sliced exposed on a plate. She fished around and there were three pieces of meat in there, she was struggling to eat a piece of it and said it was tough and gristly, I looked at what they had served her, it was FLANK or SKIRT meat in a bowl of onion gravy.discussing!
The sever came over and I told her this was not Hanger Steak, her reply was “well that was what the Chef said it was”. She removed our plates offered us coffee and that was that,I was expecting some feedback but nothing. Being my Birthday and kind of in shock about the whole experience I paid the bill and we left I was not in the right frame of mind for confrontation, on reflection I should have made more of it as it was definitely the worst dining experience ever.
